When I was growing up, I always had access to all sorts of books, music, and documentaries about the history and achievements of Black people, women, and Muslims in America and worldwide. I'm grateful for and humbled by the "access" I've had to such an array of history, information, and resources, and always compelled to share. Jamaican-born Joel Augustus Rogers was a foremost scholar, writer, and historian. His study of history, sociology, biology, and anthropology noted the greatest achievements of Africans, challenged the current ideas about race, and made correlations between the civilizations. He was a champion for African history in the 20th century, the history of the African Diaspora, and that of Black people in America. J.A. Rogers came to Harlem in 1906, where he lived most of his life. He worked as a Pullman porter, a journalist for the Pittsburgh Courier and the Chicago Enterprise. He edited Marcus Garvey's Daily Negro Times. His work as a newspaper correspondent allowed him to cover the coronation of the last Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie I, and interview Marcus Garvey in prison. J.A.
